I have a degree in French and that was the subject which I taught at senior level for over thirty years to thirteen to eighteen, including Oxbridge entry, mostly at Repton School in Derbyshire, which is one of the leading co-ed, independent boarding schools in the country.
During my time there I was Housemaster for eleven years, including a boarding house of fifty five boys, most of whom were boarders aged thirteen to eighteen. I was also secretary of the Old Reptonian Society for eleven years. And for a period of five years I was a governor at the local primary school, Repton Primary.
At Repton I was Master in charge of cricket for eight years and have been a long-standing cricket coach to a high level. I am an Advanced Cricket Coach who for ten years was a Staff Coach to the National Cricket Association. I have for many years also been involved in Coach Education, i.e. teaching other adults to be coaches and was for several years Chairman of the Derbyshire Cricket Board Coaches Association. I have coached and managed the game at county junior level (Derbyshire under seventeens) for many years, and at least one of my former charges has gone on to play test cricket for England. I have also managed cricket tours to different parts of the world; Barbados, Jamaica, Cape Town and Holland.
I am currently President of the Rotary Club of Whitby & District, in my second concurrent year in the post. As such I have played a leading role in organising events such as Octoberfest, Youth Speaks Out, dinners and raffles.
